Verilife Romeoville

Verilife Romeoville marked a significant milestone in Verilife's program to relocate and upgrade several of their dispensary locations across the country. As the third project in this nationwide initiative, Verilife Romeoville stood out due to its strategic location and the challenges it presented, which were meticulously navigated by Cordos Construction.

CORDOS is continuing this building program with another facility in Illinois, and two others in New York State that will be starting in the coming months

New consecutive buildouts

The project began in March 2024 at a 7,242-square-foot strip mall, a location that, despite its suitability for retail use, posed unique compliance challenges due to its late annexation into the village of Romeoville.

One of the primary hurdles involved addressing the building's adherence to current safety and construction codes. As part of the annexation into Romeoville, local fire safety and building regulations had evolved well beyond what was in place when the building was originally constructed. To bring the building up to date, Cordos Construction worked closely with village officials and the local fire department to ensure all safety standards were met. This process involved not only structural compliance but also the integration of modern fire protection systems.

Cordos’ scope of work included a comprehensive interior gut and rebuild. The interior transformation was extensive, designed to convert the space into a high-functioning, secure dispensary while maintaining Verilife's brand aesthetic. Among the upgrades were new fire protection systems to ensure code compliance, as well as a fully redesigned underground and above-ground plumbing network. Mechanical equipment was also overhauled, with new HVAC systems and ductwork distribution tailored for the unique needs of the dispensary.

Adaptive & Innovative

The project involved installing a backup generator, ensuring that the dispensary could maintain operations even during a power outage. In keeping with the industry’s stringent security standards, the construction plan integrated advanced data and security systems. These included access control mechanisms, burglar and duress alarms, and a comprehensive CCTV system for real-time monitoring of all areas of the dispensary.

The retail space itself was carefully designed to reflect both the modern retail experience expected in Verilife locations and the functionality needed for a high-traffic dispensary. The complete millwork package gave the project a high-end finish, with display cases, shelves, and service counters all custom-built to blend aesthetics with durability. The millwork prominently featured exposed wood slats and glass display cases, aligning with Verilife’s modern, sleek design language.

Overall, this $2 million project required careful planning, coordination with village officials, and specialized construction to meet the industry's standards for safety, security, and functionality. Verilife Romeoville represented a successful combination of modern retail design and compliance with local regulations, ensuring a safe, secure, and appealing space for customers and staff alike.
