Horace Greeley Elementary School

Whimsical playground oasis, sparks creativity, echoes laughter, and sets imaginations soaring boundlessly.

The Greeley playground construction project, taking place from June to November 2023, involved CORDOS Development & Associates overseeing the demolition and reconstruction of Greeley Elementary School's playground.

Kaleidoscope of Imagination

Initiation on March 31st included introducing fencing, machinery, and utilities, with demolition starting on April 1st. The teardown of the old playground, taking a few days, was followed by a straightforward Northside demolition.

However, in May, a month-long delay occurred due to a main sewer line under ancient trees, awaiting decisions from CPS on relocating pipes.

Foundation work for Northside playground equipment commenced in late May, simultaneous with construction and demolition on the Southside. Early June saw Northside equipment installation, while Southside demolition occurred on June 6th over two days. Mid-June excavation addressed a damaged curb caused by tree roots.

Stone installation began on June 26th and completed a few days later. Delays in scheduling the rubber subcontractor ensued, with rubber installation starting on July 18th after a three-week wait. Northside playground stone work took place on June 12th-14th.  Modifications to the Southside playground, including slide removal and additions, were made. Foundation pouring and equipment installation on the Northside started on June 6th and took approximately a week. Unexpected challenges during foundation digging revealed an old foundation and concrete bank, leading to a change order for unforeseen conditions. The playground surface, incorporating rubber, asphalt, and pipes, was completed by July 28th despite delays due to inclement weather. Additional work involved painting games like hopscotch, lasting until October.

Triumphant Completion

The Greeley playground construction project, taking place from June to November 2023, involved CORDOS Development and associates overseeing the demolition and reconstruction of Greeley Elementary School's playground.

Challenges, including delays due to a main sewer line under ancient trees and unexpected issues like hitting an old foundation and concrete bank, were overcome, and the project concluded successfully. Post-completion, two roof drains were discovered unconnected to the manhole. Asphalt was dug up to rectify this, concluding within a week.

Toward the project's end, unexpected work involved cutting asphalt to install a new manhole, not initially planned. Despite these challenges, the Greeley playground construction project successfully concluded By CORDOS in November 2023.
