Starting April to October 2023, The 650,000 dollar Blaine playground construction project involved the demolition and reconstruction of a playground at Blaine Elementary School . Challenges included delays due to a main sewer line under ancient trees, leading to a month-long setback. Despite unexpected issues like hitting an old foundation and concrete bank, CORDOS Development and Associates successfully completed the project.

The timeline included Northside and Southside work, with stone installation, rubber surfacing, and equipment installation. Delays in scheduling the rubber subcontractor and weather-related disruptions pushed completion until October. Post-completion, CORDOS addressed unconnected roof drains, requiring asphalt removal and a week of additional work. Unexpectedly, we also cut asphalt to install a new manhole. Despite these challenges, the project concluded successfully in October 2023.

The demolition process included tearing down the old playground, requiring a few days to complete and clean the site. The Northside demolition was straightforward, but in May, we encountered a challenge. A main sewer line under ancient trees prompted concern about potential root damage, leading to a month-long delay as we awaited decisions from CPS on relocating the pipes.

In late May, foundation work for the Northside playground equipment commenced simultaneously with construction and demolition on the Southside. Early June saw the installation of playground equipment on the Northside, while Southside demolition occurred on June 6th over two days. In mid-June, excavation addressed a damaged curb caused by tree roots.

Stone installation, initiated on June 26th, completed a few days later. However, delays in scheduling the rubber subcontractor ensued. Stone inspection passed on June 28th, and rubber installation began on July 18th after a three-week wait.

On June 12th, Northside playground stone work was undertaken, finishing around June 13-14th. Modifications were made to the Southside playground, removing a slide, adding steps, and eliminating a spider web post. Foundation pouring and equipment installation on the Northside started on June 6th and took approximately a week.

Unexpected challenges arose during foundation digging, revealing an old foundation and concrete bank. We promptly alerted CPS, initiating a change order for unforeseen conditions. The playground surface, incorporating rubber, asphalt, and pipes, was completed by July 28th, despite delays due to inclement weather. Additional work involved painting games, like hopscotch, lasting until October.

Post-completion, two roof drains were discovered unconnected to the manhole. Asphalt was dug up to rectify this, concluding within a week. Toward the project's end, unexpected work involved cutting asphalt to install a new manhole, not initially planned.
